Birth control question...?!?

So next Saturday I'm getting put on birth control through planned parenthood without parental consent.. But anyways.. What are some side effects? How does it affect you period? What is the percentage of protection against pregnancy? Is it safe to have sex without a condom after you've been on it for a while? Anything else I should know?
